Laser Cutter retrofit

So I bought this.....

A 100w laser cutter, another impulse buy.... However, its going to be extremely useful.

Its quite an old machine that needs updating which is handy because I have absolutely no idea if it works currently. The electrics are very dated and so is the laser tube.

The machine is generally in great condition and is a fantastic starting point for a retrofit project.

Some more pictures:

900 x 600 cutting area, servo motors and encoders power the x and y axis. All optics present.

90's electronics....

My initial plans are to replace the dated flowing gas co2 laser with a sealed 60w laser tube. Update the laser power supply. Install a stand alone motion controller with stepper motor and drives to power the axis. Possibly fabricate a lowering bed as a Z axis to accommodate deeper work pieces. Then break for lunch......
